Up to $2,000! Maersk Announces Rate Hikes on Multiple Routes

Recently, Maersk has issued a series of Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) notices covering multiple trade routes, including the Far East to the U.S. and Canada, and Asia to East Africa. On the U.S. and Canada routes, the surcharge reaches up to $2,000 per container, while multiple ports in East Africa are also seeing simultaneous increases in surcharges.

Peak Season Surcharge — Far East to U.S. and Canada
Origin: China, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Macau (China), Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Russia.
Destination: United States, Canada
Effective Date: June 17, 2026
Charges:

  • All 20-foot containers: USD 1,000 per container

  • All 40-foot and 45-foot containers: USD 2,000 per container

Peak Season Surcharge — Asia to East Africa
Origin: China, Hong Kong (China), Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam.
Destination: Kenya, Dar es Salaam
Effective Date: June 1, 2026 (June 2 for Vietnam)
Charges:

  • From China and Hong Kong to Dar es Salaam:

    • 20-foot dry/reefer containers: USD 500 per container

    • 40-foot dry/reefer and 45-foot high cube containers: USD 900 per container

  • For shipments from other origins to Kenya and Dar es Salaam, the surcharge ranges from USD 700 to USD 1,500 per container, depending on container type and origin.
