Anchor chains fall into the category of ultra‑heavy, rolling‑prone heavy‑lift cargoes. They are typically delivered in bundles or coils, with each bundle weighing several dozen tonnes. Their shape is cylindrical or ring‑like. During transport, anti‑rolling and anti‑loosening are the core priorities.
Heavy individual bundle weight: large marine anchor chain bundles can weigh 20‑50 tonnes each, requiring heavy‑duty low‑bed trailers or multi‑axle trailers for transport. Shipping lines must review the stowage plan before accepting a booking.
Cylindrical/ring shape prone to rolling: anchor chain bundles have no naturally stable surface and must be secured with dedicated anti‑shift devices to prevent rolling during transport.
Chain surfaces are vulnerable to impact: anchor chains are typically shot‑blasted or painted. Hard contact between links or friction against the deck can damage the surface coating.
Bundling can easily loosen: the binding wires or steel straps on the chains themselves may come loose under transport vibration, requiring additional securing.
When multiple bundles are shipped together, they must be tightly packed or individually secured to prevent mutual impact.
JYC Supply Chain: Providing a Comprehensive Integrated Logistics Service System
JYC handles a full range of anchor chain types, including marine stud‑link anchor chains, open‑link anchor chains, mooring chains, mining chains, and other types of chains. Based on individual bundle weight and dimensions, we customise the transport solution and manage the entire process from port consolidation to shipment.
Domestic pick‑up → lifting solution + vessel type matching → lashing and securing → port delivery → ocean freight booking → destination delivery
Step 1: Domestic Inland Transport
Clients may either arrange delivery to our designated port consolidation yard themselves or authorise us to provide door‑to‑door pick‑up. We operate a fleet of heavy‑duty low‑bed trailers covering major anchor chain manufacturing bases nationwide. Based on individual bundle weight, we deploy the appropriate vehicle to ensure safe delivery to the consolidation yard.
Step 2: Lifting Solution + Vessel Type Matching
Based on bundle dimensions and weight, we determine lifting points, using spreader beams and dedicated slings to keep the bundle stable. Based on the number of bundles and total weight, we select the appropriate vessel type and develop a stowage plan, ensuring that bundles are tightly packed or individually supported.
Step 3: Lashing and Securing
All operations comply with shipping line requirements and industry standards.
Our lashing solution:
Anchor chain bundles are stowed horizontally, with timber sleepers placed underneath to increase friction and protect the chain coating.
Steel anti‑shift blocks or timber chocks are wedged tightly against the front and rear of each bundle, and welded or nailed to the deck, forming the primary anti‑shift measure.
Adjacent bundles are tightly packed with no gaps, using mutual pressure to enhance overall stability.
The ends of each row of bundles are secured as a whole with steel wire ropes and tensioners to prevent lateral shifting.
The outer circumference of each bundle is additionally secured with steel wire ropes or lashing straps to prevent the internal binding from loosening.
When multiple rows are arranged longitudinally, steel stop plates or timber separators are placed between rows to prevent longitudinal movement.
After the entire vessel is lashed, photographs are taken for documentation, and a lashing inspection certificate is issued.
Step 4: Port Operations
We submit the heavy‑lift operation plan to the terminal in advance, coordinate cranes and spreader beams, and ensure smooth delivery of the chain bundles to the port. Dedicated supervisors oversee the loading, re‑inspect the stowage arrangement and lashing condition, and only after confirmation arrange for vessel loading. We also cooperate with customs inspections and assist with clearance procedures.
Step 5: Ocean Freight Booking
Based on individual bundle weight, dimensions, and destination port, we select the most suitable vessel type and route, prioritising shipping lines with proven experience in heavy cargo transport. Our main cooperating vessel types include: breakbulk / general cargo vessels, multi‑purpose vessels, and heavy‑lift vessels. We cover major ports from China to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, South America, and Europe. We also provide recommendations for marine insurance solutions.
Step 6: Destination Delivery
We notify the consignee in advance of the voyage schedule and estimated time of arrival, assist with discharging and customs clearance at the destination port, and coordinate local transport resources and lifting gear for last‑mile delivery. Throughout the process, we provide full tracking of all logistics milestones and keep you updated with real‑time transport status.
